The last World Cup Giant Slalom before the Finals in Courchevel saw Slovakia's Petra Vlhova emerge victorious for the first time this season. One year after her last win in the Giant Slalom in Jasna, in the same place she won the Giant Slalom Gold in 2019, Vlhova put on a show of strength and determination on an extremely demanding slope and difficult course setting, especially in the first run.
In the lead after the first run, the 26-year-old Slovakian skier didn’t let the nerves play any tricks on her and put another stunning run together to clock a combined time of 2:32.59 edging Marta Bassino by +1.23 seconds. Mikaela Shiffrin rounded out the podium, +1.70 seconds off the pace.
"After almost a year I'm back on the Giant Slalom podium and right at the top. I already felt good in the morning. I still made mistakes in the first run, but I gave my best again in the second run. I'm really happy", said Vlhova.
Despite failing to finish the second run, Sara Hector keeps leading the Giant Slalom standings with 522 points, 5 over Tessa Worley. Mikaela Shiffrin is third with 471. Even Petra Vlhova (431) still has chances to win the Giant Slalom Crystal Globe.
The fight for the Overall Crystal Globe is still open even Mikaela Shiffrin has a clear lead with 1216 points. But with her sixth win of the season, Petra Vlhova reduced her gap to Shiffrin to 77 points.
