Petra Vlhova Wins First Slalom in Åre

Petra Vlhova Wins First of the two slaloms to be held in Åre. Katharina Liensberger finished in second place (+0.20), with Mikaela Shiffrin in third place (+0.64). It was her 20th career World Cup victory.

Vlhová has won seven of the last ten slalom events held in the World Cup, with the only exceptions of a second place in Jasna and two fourth places in Semmering and Flachau this season. Petra Vlhová claims four slalom victories in a single World Cup season for the first time.

Vlhová is leading the Slalom standings by 85 points (580 points), with Mikaela Shiffrin in second place (495), and Katharina Liensberger in third place (490).

With today's first place Petra Vlhova takes the lead in the hunt for the Overall Globe as she now holds a 64 point advantage over Lara Gut-Behrami.

"Now every win and every podium is important to me, (...) I have to do everything perfectly now - and it was like that today. There were a few small mistakes. The slope was already soft, but I was able to confirm my performance and I am very happy", Vlhova said.

Katharina Liensberger has claimed eight World Cup podiums in Slalom but has yet to achieve her first victory. Only Wendy Holdener (26) and Malgorzata Mogore Tlalka (8) have finished on more women's World Cup slalom podiums without ever winning.

Tomorrow she can become the fifth active female skier to win a World Cup slalom event, after Mikaela Shiffrin, Petra Vlhová, Michelle Gisin, and Erin Mielzynski.

Despite only 20 hundredths has separated Liensberger from the long-awaited World Cup triumph there was no complaint in Katharina. "It's great fun to match Mika and Petra (...) I'm happy that I managed such a run", Liensberger said.

Mikaela Shiffrin made a big mistake in her second run and was close to being out but she has pulled off an amazing recovery to finish in third place merely 0.05 seconds ahead of Wendy Holdener. In her last 50 slalom participation in the World Cup, Shiffrin finished on the podium 46 times.
