FIS announced the receipt of a total of four applications to be Candidates to host the 2027 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships submitted by Crans Montana (Switzerland), Garmisch-Partenkirchen (Germany), Narvik (Norway), and Soldeu (Andorra).
The FIS announcement included also an application to host the 2027 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships submitted by Falun (Sweden), and another application for the 2026 FIS Ski Flying World Championship submitted by Oberstdorf (Germany).
"FIS is very pleased with the diversity and quality of the Candidates to host our flagship events in 2026 and 2027. Each Candidate brings its own set of strengths and experience to their bids and we know that whoever is elected will do an excellent job organizing the World Championships”, commented FIS President Gian Franco Kasper.
A detailed concept for each Candidates’ bid is due by 1st September 2021 based on a specific FIS Questionnaire. The questionnaire asks for details regarding plans for sports organization, venue and facilities, legacy, workforce and volunteers, sustainability and environment, and accommodation, transportation, security, commercial rights and marketing, broadcast operations and media services, communications and promotion, ceremonies, spectator services, the ski festival, legal aspects, organization structure, and financing.
After the questionnaire is received, a formal meeting with each of the Candidates will take place during the FIS Technical Committee Meetings in early October, after which each Candidate will finalize its concept for its bid.
In April 2022, the Candidate Questionnaire and FIS Inspection Group report will be published and distributed to the National Ski Associations, Technical Committee chairs, and the FIS Council.
The FIS Council will elect the Organisers of the FIS World Championships 2026 and 2027 at the 53rd International Ski Congress to be held in May 2022. During the FIS Congress week, each Candidate will have a chance to present their candidatures to the extended FIS family and discuss their plans from their exhibition stands, assuming the Congress is held in person. They will also describe their World Championship visions to the respective Technical Committees, before the final presentation to the FIS Council during the Congress week.
