Dominik Paris takes today his first victory of the season in Garmisch Downhill. It was the 19th career World Cup victory for the 31-year-old Italian skier since returning from the ACL injury suffered last year in Kitzbühel. The last victory for Paris in the World Cup was in Bormio in December 2019.
With 15 victories in Downhill, Dominik Paris is the active male skier to have won the most Downhill events in the World Cup. On the all-time Men's list, Paris shares fourth place alongside Franz Heinzer and Hermann Maier. Only Franz Klammer (25), and Stephan Eberharter (21) Peter Müller (20) have more Downhill races in the World Cup than Paris.
"I'm a little bit surprised, I pushed... it was a lot of fun today (...) It was every day, a little bit better. I had more confidence on skis, but I know it takes a lot to be back on the podium and to get the victory. Training yesterday gave me a lot of confidence that I was skiing very solid, and today I was pushing very hard to the bottom. I'm very happy. I hope it's coming back a little bit more, my skiing", Paris said.
Finishing just 0.37 seconds off the winning pace was Downhill's red bib Beat Feuz. It was still Feuz's 51st career World Cup podium and his 39th in Downhill. Only Franz Klammer (41), and Peter Müller (41), have recorded more podium finishes in Men's World Cup Downhill events than Feuz.
Rounding out the podium was Matthias Mayer. He finished 0.40 seconds behind Paris It is his fourth straight podium in Downhill.
The results keep Beat Feuz (406) and Matthias Mayer (358) in first and second place in the Downhill Cup standings, while Dominik Paris (288) overtakes Johan Clarey for third.
