Ester Ledecka claims today her second World Cup win in a Downhill. The Czech all-rounder, who won gold in the snowboard parallel in Beijing, beats Ragnhild Mowinckel in the first World Cup race after the Olympics. Third place went to Cornelia Hütter.
It's her third victory and seventh World Cup podium in alpine skiing, the fifth one in the speed discipline. The last time she finished in the Top-3 was in Cortina d'Ampezzo in January.
One year ago she finished in second place in one of the two Downhills held in Crans Montana.
“I'm very satisfied, it was a really nice run. I did a lot better than in training and it was a lot of fun. I had muscular problems last week and it was difficult to find the strength. The training sessions were therefore also difficult for me. But today I felt a lot better and I was ready for the race”, said Ledecka.
Until today, Italian or Swiss skiers had won all the last 15 events of the Women's World Cup Downhill races: eight by Sofia Goggia, five by Lara Gut-Behrami, and two by Corinne Suter.
Ragnhild Mowinckel finished in second place, +0,21 seconds behind Ledecka. It's her first career Downhill World Cup podium. In the Downhill, her previous best results had been three sixth places in 2018. The seven top-three finishes she had to her name all came in the Giant Slalom and Super-G.
Cortina Hütter confirms impressively she is back on the speed scene after her first (SG) and third place (DH) in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. It's her 17th podium in the World Cup (11 DH, 6 SG).
“The season isn't over yet and you have to keep pushing. It's just fun to be back. I knew I had to put everything into it so that I could be up on the top positions”, said Hütter.
