In a shortened racecourse, the jury decided to use the reserve start due to strong wind, the Italian team make a demonstration with a 1-2 podium and 5 skiers in the Top 10.
Despite the lower start, skiers continued to struggle with difficult conditions. The wind blew the top layer of snow and It was extremely difficult to find the perfect line.
Federica Brignone beats her teammate Elena Curtoni and claimed the victory in today’s Audi FIS World Cup super-G in St. Moritz. Brignone mastered the difficult conditions with a risky and technically clean ride, especially in the middle section.
She is now the Italian woman with the most World Cup wins (17) in all disciplines and on the Super-G (5 victories).
Brignone had won her last Super-G World Cup race in Val di Fassa on 28 February. She finished in 5th place in Lake Louise. It is her second podium in St. Moritz. She finished in second place in 2019.
"In training, I did well in the Super-G, but I didn't feel good in Lake Louise and I knew it had to get better in St. Moritz. I wanted to attack yesterday but didn't make it. So I was really pissed off and I said to myself, today you risk everything. When I drove through the finish line, I didn't feel good, but all the better when I saw the time", said Brignone.
Elena Curtoni finished in second place +0.11 behind Brignone. It's her sixth World Cup podium, her third in the Super-G. Her last podium in the discipline was in Crans Montana in 2017.
After finishing yesterday in third place, today Mikaela Shiffrin was again on the podium in the same position (+0.44). Of Shiffrin's seven World Cup Super-G podiums, four came in St. Moritz. She claimed victory in the Swiss ski resort on 8 December 2018 and finished third on 14 December 2019 and again this season in the two Super-G's.
Alice Robinson was the surprise of the day. She achieved her best Super-G result with fourth place (+0.52 seconds).
Lara Gut-Behrami, who won yesterday's Super-G, caused a shock when, after setting the fastest time on the first partials, she fell after a mistake on the lower section and flew over the safety fence. After a few minutes, she was able to ski into the finish line on her own. It is the first time the 30-year-old is off the podium in a Super-G since La Thuile in February 2020. Later Swiss-Ski announced an initial diagnosis. Gut-Behrami suffered a severe blow on the shoulder and was a little shocked.
