Lara Gut-Behrami wins today's Super-G in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. It was her 4th straight podium third straight Super-G victory after winning the last two discipline races in St. Anton am Arlberg and Crans-Montana.
Gut-Behrami is the first woman to win three successive Super-G races in the World Cup since she achieved this herself from December 2016 to January 2017.
It's also her third win in the German town of Bayern (she won here in 2016 and 2017), and 29th in the World Cup.
It was a 15th Super-G win in World Cup skiing for the Swiss skier, who is fourth in the all-time Women's Super G victory rank behind Lindsey Vonn (28), Renate Goetschl (17), and Katja Seizinger (16).
Today's Victory pulled Gut-Behrami into second place in the overall World Cup standings behind Petra Vlhova. She now also has a commanding lead in the super-G season standings with a 140-point advantage over teammate Corrine Suter.
"It is super cool to be this fast again. I am happy that my confidence is back (...) A few months ago, people asked me if I was still able to win a race at all. Now people start talking about the (overall) World Cup. It shows how fast things can change in sport (...) For me, it’s important that I keep my level of skiing, that I can be fast like today and enjoy it”, Gut said.
“After 13 years I’m still able to win. Even though I didn’t win every season I was racing, I was almost in the position to have a chance to win (...) I think this is the biggest achievement you can have in your career, that you can try to win every time you are in the start", Gut added.
Kajska Vickhoff Lie finished in second place +0.68 seconds behind the Swiss. It is her first top-three after 45 World Cup starts. Lie is having a strong season after she earned her only other career top-five finish earlier this season in the Val d’Isere Downhill.
In third place was veteran Canadian Marie-Michele Gagnon. She finished +0.93 seconds behind Gut. She knocked Sofia Goggia off the podium wearing bib 29 by 0.07 seconds. It was the first career podium for Gagnon in the Super-G and just the fifth of her career. The last time she landed in the top three was in the combined in Soldeu (Grandvalira, Andorra) in 2016.
