Tomorrow the Alpine the Ski World Cup will return to Italy with the Giant Slalom race on the demanding ERTA slope in S. Vigilio di Marebbe at the Kronplatz.
Kronplatz is a ski resort in the Dolomites in South Tyrol, Italy.
The holiday region of Kronplatz comprises the beautiful Pustertal Valley and some side valleys such as Ahrntal/Valle Aurina, Gsieser Tal/Val Casies, Antholzertal/Valle di Anterselva and part of Gadertal/Val Badia.
The ski area has 32 modern lifts serving 119 km of pistes catering for all abilities. Kronplatz is one of the 12 ski areas of Dolomiti Superski, a world-famous network of 1.200 km of slopes. The ski pass includes also the famous Sella Ronda.

Marta Bassino has won four of the five Giant Slalom races this season, with the only exception of the second event in Courchevel where she DNF.
Bassino finished third in the Kronplatz Giant Slalom in 2017 and 2019.
Federica Brignone has finished in the top five in 9 of her last 11 World Cup appearances in the Giant Slalom. The only exceptions were an eighth place in Kranjska Gora in February 2020 and a 'DNF' in Kranjska Gora in January 2021.
Brignone has won seven Giant Slalom races in the World Cup. She claimed two World Cup Giant Slalom victories on Italian snow. She won the first edition in Kronplatz in January 2017 and shared the win with Petra Vlhová in Sestriere in January 2020.
Mikaela Shiffrin has collected 12 World Cup victories in Giant Slalom. On December 14th, Shiffrin won the Giant Slalom in Courchevel her only win in GS this season.
She won the last Giant Slalom race held in Kronplatz, in January 2019.
Petra Vlhová won the last World Cup Giant Slalom held in Italy, a shared win with Federica Brignone in Sestriere in January 2020. Since the start of the 2018-2019 season, only Shiffrin (11) claimed more World Cup podiums in the Women's Giant Slalom than Vlhová (8).
Tessa Worley has claimed 13 World Cup victories in the Giant Slalom. Worley has finished on 31 World Cup Giant Slalom podiums, equal to Annemarie Moser-Pröll and Compagnoni (both 31) in fourth place among women. Only Vreni Schneider (46), Wachter (45), and Rebensburg (34) have more podiums.
After finishing fifth in 2017 and failing to complete the first run in 2018, Mikaela Shiffrin proved that the third time was the charm as she claimed a decisive 1.21-second victory over Tessa Worley. It was Shiffrin's first win at the Italian resort, and she was thoroughly pleased to have finally mastered the demanding ERTA slope.
Marta Bassino finished third matching the very same result she secured at Kronplatz in 2017.
In 2018 Viktoria Rebensburg skied the fastest second run to move from third place after the first run into first place, narrowly edging out the first-run winner Ragnhild Mowinckel of Norway by 0.03 seconds. Federica Brignone brought the crowd to its feet with a third-place finish.
In 2017 Kronplatz hosted a World Cup race for the very first time, becoming the 23rd Italian resort to do so. The technically demanding Erta racecourse with a maximum gradient of 61 percent at its steepest point challenged the Ladies in the Kronplatz Giant Slalom to ski a clean line.
Federica Brignone led the charge, winning with a combined time of 2:10.05. She was joined on the podium by Tessa Worley and her teammate Marta Bassino, who were 0.55 and 0.57 seconds off the winning pace, respectively.
