In an Exciting race in Schladming Austrian Marco Schwarz claimed his second career World Cup slalom victory. He finished ahead of the French duo of Clement Noel and Alexis Pinturault.
Schwarz has collected six slalom podiums this World Cup season. He only failed to record a top-three finish in Madonna di Campiglio, where he came ninth.
He is the first skier to win more than one race this season. Until today the six previous races had been won by six different skiers: Ramon Zenhäusern (Alta Badia), Henrik Kristoffersen (Madonna di Campiglio), Linus Straßer (Zagreb), Marco Schwarz (Adelboden), Manuel Feller (Flachau 1) and Sebastian Foss Solevåg (Flachau 2).
Schwarz (489 points) continue leading the Men's Slalom standings this season. Sebastian Foss-Solevaag is now second with 358 points with Manuel Feller third with 324 after failing to complete the second run today.
"It’s pretty amazing to win in Schladming, it’s the classic to win. It was tough to come back from sixth place in the first run, but to win feels pretty amazing (..) In the second round, I had to fully attack because the other guys also did. Went pretty good the second round, so I'm pretty happy", Schwarz said.
Clement Noel finished in second place 0.68 seconds behind Schwarz. It is his second podium of the season.
Tonight the overall leader Alexis Pinturault has skied at his best slalom level again. He skied the fastest second run to move from the eleventh place after the first run into third place, finishing 0.82 seconds behind Schwarz.
With his third-place today, he earned his second slalom podium this season, the tenth in his career. Of Pinturault's last five World Cup podiums in the slalom, four came on Austrian ground.
Pinturault had finished runner-up in each of the last two World Cup slalom events held in Schladming until today.
