After finishing yesterday just off the podium in 4th place, her best position in the World Cup, Priska Nufer claims today her first World Cup win. The 30-year-old was already the best Swiss in the final training session and on Saturday.
With bib number 2, the day before she had started out with number 30, Nufer was able to take advantage of an optimal slope condition and resolutely took advantage of her chance. She fully attacked from top to bottom and set a time that no competitor could beat.
Ten years after she made her debut in the World Cup, and in her 144th World Cup race (69th in Downhill), she is finally at the top for the first time.
Ester Ledecka has finished in second place, only 0.11 seconds behind Nufer with Sofia Goggia in third place (+0.23).
"It's an incredible day. I got everything out of my starting number yesterday and was able to confirm that today. It's incredible. I felt I was in good shape and had to look ahead and not back”, said Nufer.
Ester Ledecka claims today her sixth World Cup podium in a Downhill. It's her eighth World Cup podium in alpine skiing,
With today's third-place Goggia is a step closer to claiming the Downhill crystal globe. She is leading this season's World Cup downhill standings with 482 points, 75 points ahead of Corinne Suter. The Swiss would have to finish the race in Courchevel at least in second place and hope for a big mistake by the Italian to overtake Goggia.
The Italian speed ace will become the first woman since Lindsey Vonn (2014-2015 and 2015-2016) to claim the downhill crystal globe in successive seasons.
After finishing today in 16th place, Petra Vlhova is now leading the overall standings with 1026 points tied with Mikaela Shiffrin. Sofia Goggia is in the second position with 851 points.
