Sofia Goggia crowned her race weekend with the third victory in a row. After the two Downhill victories, she remained on the road to top the podium in the Super-G. The last woman to win three races in a row was Lindsey Vonn. Goggia joined Lindsey Vonn (2011, 2012, and 2015) and Germany's Katja Seizinger (1997) in completing a skiing hat trick in Lake Louise.
After winning both Downhills held in Lake Louise the Olympic and defending Downhill World Cup Champion gave another ski masterclass to grab a third victory in Lake Louise, today in the Super-G. It's her fourth World Cup in the Super-G. Her last victory in the discipline was in St. Moritz in 2019.
"I am really happy today, this is the best victory for sure of these three days. I just said to myself push and do the lines I had seen in the inspection and create speed in the last part of the pitch. When I saw the green light today it was an explosion in my heart because I did really believe I could do this but until you see the green light you never know", the Italian said.
"Today was one of my best victories ever because I made a change from the Downhill to the super-G", added Goggia.
Mikaela Shiffrin leads the overall standings with 405 points, Petra Vlhova is second with 340 and now Sofia Goggia is in third place with 315 points. Goggia shows in Lake Louise she will also have a say in the fight for the overall World Cup.
Lara Gut-Behrami finished in second place, +0,11 behind Goggia. The triple-medal winner in Cortina, -she won the world titles in the Super-G and Giant slalom, and the bronze medal in the Downhill- finished on the podium in each of the last six World Cup Super-G events. The Swiss claimed four successive wins from the start of 2021 (St. Anton, Crans-Montana, and twice in Garmisch-Partenkirchen), before finishing runner-up to Federica Brignone in Val di Fassa on 28 February, and now to Sofia Goggia in Lake Louise.
It's her podium number 62 in the World Cup.
