Tessa Worley has won today in Kronplatz her first Audi FIS World Cup race since 2018 when she won in the Opening race in Sölden.
Worley skied the fastest second run to move from fifth place after the first run into first place, finishing 0.27 seconds ahead of Lara Gut-Behrami.
Tessa Worley has claimed 14 World Cup victories in the Giant Slalom. Worley has finished on 32 World Cup Giant Slalom podiums. Only Vreni Schneider (46), Wachter (45), and Rebensburg (34) have more podiums.
Worley matched Anita Wachter, Lise-Marie Morerod, Tina Maze and Viktoria Rebensburg with 14 career Giant Slalom wins for third place all time.
This season, it has been a battle to top the field with Marta Bassino emerging as the dominant force. But today it was Worley who earned the bragging rights as Bassino had to settle for third place 0.73 seconds behind.
"I'm so happy, a part of me was saying, 'yes, you have it in you and you can still do it...' Another part was like, 'maybe you're over for a win (...). Today I knew it was going to be a big, big fight, I just wanted to take all the risks, to not have any regrets, and see how it could go. I never thought about winning, it was just about putting everything that I had on the slope", Worley said.
It is going to be a special day for Tessa Worley today, with longtime boyfriend Julien Lizeroux skiing his last World Cup race of his career tonight in Schladming, Austria.
Lara Gut-Behrami extended her podium streak to three-straight as she has landed in the podium in 3 different disciplines just four days apart, an impressive feat for the Swiss star. She was second in the Downhill and first in the super-G in Crans Montana, in addition to today’s runner-up finish.
Gut has achieved now 13 World Cup podiums in the Giant Slalom, but the last one before today was in Maribor in January 2017.
Marta Bassino completed the podium today in Kronplatz. This season, it has been a battle to top the field with Bassino emerging as the dominant force. But today it was Worley who earned the bragging rights as Bassino had to settle for third place 0.73 seconds behind.
Marta Bassino still has a clear and dominant lead in the giant slalom season standings, with 460 points, well ahead of Worley with 336 points, and Michelle Gisin (SUI) with 312.
