Third Win In Giant Slalom for Marco Odermatt

After finishing in second place yesterday, Marco Odermatt wins the second Giant Slalom held in Alta Badia.

Marco Odermatt celebrated his third victory in the fourth Giant Slalom of the season in an impressive manner. The 24-year-old Swiss, who was leading the race after the first run, outclassed the competition and won with a clear lead of 1.01 seconds.

I hope it goes on like this. t worked much better today than it did yesterday.

I don't know what to say, it was a big fight again in the second run, I really wanted to do this today after a good first run. I know that everything is possible and I just tried to push and push. It's not really possible to do better than now, it's unbelievable what's happening at the moment. I just want to enjoy it and I am really happy that we have four days off now", said Odermatt.

The Swiss finished in the top-five in 15 of his last 16 World Cup appearances in the Giant Slalom, with 11th place in Lenzerheide on 20 March 2021 as the exception.

He now leads the Giant Slalom and Overall standings by 167 and 228 points respectively.

Luca De Aliprandini finished in second place. It is his first podium in the World Cup.

I've tried to do my best. Fortunately, it was enough for the podium in my home race. That’s really nice", said the 31-year-old Italian.

Alexander Schmid finished in third place, 1.09 seconds back. Schmid became the first German since Markus Wasmeier 35 years ago to make it onto the podium on the Gran Risa. Schmid like Aliprandini also celebrated his premiere exuberantly on a Giant Slalom World Cup podium.

"After the first run I knew the first two were way ahead, so I just wanted to do my thing and have fun. That worked. I'm super happy”, said Schmid.

Yesterday's winner Henrik Kristoffersen finished just 0.02 seconds off the podium.

It was another disappointing day for Alexis Pinturault. He finished in 18th position +2.70 seconds behind Odermatt.

"I'm way too far behind, it would be idiotic to try to catch up. I'm going to take some time to find my top level. I have to be realistic looking at the standings. Giant Slalom is my strongest discipline and I am nowhere near where I must be, I have to go away and concentrate on the basics", Pinturault said.
