Sofia Goggia returned to her winning ways with a Super-G victory at St. Moritz Today. Goggia was characteristically aggressive and risky, and the style paid off massively. She bested her teammate Federica Brignone by merely 0.01 seconds. Mikaela Shiffrin joined the Italian duo to complete the podium (+0.13 s.).
Despite the weather forecast, today's race has been held in perfect conditions, without wind and sun-drenched.
During this "Engadiner" perfect day, another dream came true for the Italian team that two weeks after the one-two Bassino-Brignone in Killington's Giant Slalom, they signed another great double win, with Sofia Goggia and Federica Brignone respectively first and second in St. Moritz's Super-G. By the smallest margin of one cent, Sofia Goggia claimed the victory for the first time this year. This is the 11th women's double win in the history of Italian Ski Federation and the 3rd one in Super-G.
Sofia Goggia attacked the slopes with her usual vigour, but she lost one of her sticks in the latter stages of her run that didn't stop her though, and she maintained the pace.
"That's crazy. It's a huge day. I've unlocked myself, and I took serious risks, as usual, but I wanted this result after Lake Louise. The stick? It could happen!".
Federica Brignone achieved her 32nd World Cup podium and the fifth in the discipline and what about the American star Mikaela Shiffrin who went for her sixth podium finish in eight World Cup races cementing her place at the top of the Overall standing.
In a tight race, the top 10 racers were all within one second of each other, and there was a three-way tie for sixth with Nina Ortlieb (AUT), Corinne Suter (SUI) and Kajsa Vickhoff Lie (NOR).
